Could Parasites Be Affecting Your Gut Health?
Parasites – Are they Wreaking Havoc on your Health
Are you dealing with digestive issues, fatigue, brain fog, or symptoms that just don’t seem to have a clear cause? Parasites may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but they’re more common than most people realize. That’s why you hear so much about parasite cleansing.
Parasites are part of gut health; in fact, that is why our stomach pH is so acidic, to help keep them at bay. However, parasites can still become uninvited guests. It’s funny because when you mention parasites, people think of intestinal worms. But digestive imbalances can also involve organisms like Giardia, yeast overgrowth such as Candida, and bacterial imbalances that occur when the microbiome becomes disrupted. When you get these, they need to be escorted out, or you need to balance your microbiome so your body can take care of this naturally.
Parasites and Your Gut Health
Parasites are part of the gut health picture and the main reason why our stomach pH is so acidic. That acidity is one of your body’s first lines of defense, helping keep unwanted organisms at bay. But when the gut microbiome falls out of balance, that protective environment weakens. Inflammation increases, the gut lining becomes more permeable, and conditions that allow parasites and yeast to thrive become more common.
This is one of the reasons gut health is always the starting point. A strong, balanced gut environment is your best natural defense against uninvited guests taking hold in the first place.
Signs You May Want to Consider a Parasite Cleanse
If you are not feeling well and can’t figure out what’s wrong, parasites may be worth considering. Ask yourself whether any of the following apply to you:
You have pets at home. Pets can bring parasites into the home that can be transferred to you. If you have pets and experience ongoing digestive symptoms, additional digestive support or cleansing strategies may be worth exploring.
You have recently traveled abroad and haven’t felt well since. Uninvited guests are often picked up when traveling internationally. Many of my clients have developed digestive issues following an international trip.
You experience grinding teeth, anal itching, severe weight changes, diarrhea, or chronic digestive upset. These can be signs that your gut health or microbiome has become imbalanced.
You have symptoms of intestinal dysbiosis. These include gas and bloating, frequent belching, brain fog, fatigue, constipation or diarrhea, reduced immunity, insomnia, anxiety, and depression. If this sounds familiar, a milder parasite cleanse may be a helpful starting point.
If you have persistent digestive issues, consider our 30-Day Gut Reset as a structured way to begin addressing the root cause.
Different Types of Parasites
- Nematodes – tiny worms like pinworms, whipworms, and hookworms. Pinworms are the most common and one of the easiest to detect.
- Tapeworms can become quite large when you pass them. Often, at first, they look like grains of uncooked rice or cucumber seeds.
- Single-celled squatters—Giardia is a waterborne disease that can be picked up through drinking contaminated water or swimming and ingesting contaminated water from a body of water.
- Yeast and Fungus – Candida albicans (yeast), which can occur from several rounds of antibiotics or chemotherapy.
- Ringworm is a fungal infection of the skin.
- H. Pylori is a bacterium that is often involved with ulcers.

Herbs Used for Parasite Cleansing
1. Black Walnut
2. Clove Bud
3. Garlic
4. Goldenseal
5. Mugwort
6. Pumpkin Seed
7. Wormwood
Some people choose to support digestive cleansing with herbal blends containing ingredients like black walnut, clove, garlic, wormwood, and pumpkin seed. Nature’s Sunshine offers blends such as Para Cleanse, Candida Clear, and Artemisia Combination that are commonly used for digestive support.
Hulda Clark was a pioneer in natural parasite-cleansing protocols and one of the first to develop herbal approaches to eradicate parasites. The Electric Foot Massager functions similarly to her Zapper and is a tool I use and recommend.
Additional Tips to Support Your Cleanse
If you are having trouble eliminating or dealing with constipation, consider doing a gentle colon cleanse or using a mild laxative like Triphala or Gentle Move to make sure things are moving before beginning a parasite cleanse. During your cleanse, avoid simple sugars, refined carbohydrates, alcohol, and caffeine. Focus on lean protein and plenty of vegetables to support your body through the process. Lifestyle habits are a key for gut health.
Where to Start
Addressing parasites is really about supporting your gut environment so your body can do what it was designed to do. When your microbiome is balanced and your gut is healthy, uninvited guests have a much harder time taking hold.
