pH Balancing: How Your Body’s pH Affects Your Health

Why pH Balancing Matters

pH Balancing has a huge impact on our health. I have read several books on pH, and the two most interesting are both by the same person — M.T. Morter, Jr., M.A., D.C. He wrote “Your Health, Your Choice,” which explains how our digestive systems work and how the foods we eat affect our pH levels. The other book he wrote, “pH Your Potential For Health,” is written to assist individuals interested in monitoring their health by testing their pH levels.

It’s an often-overlooked fact that health is highly dependent on energy. While nutrients are important, life is not simply a combination of static, inert materials. Living tissue is constantly growing, changing, adapting, and moving. If you zoom in on the activity of a cell in any living creature, you will see that hundreds of chemicals and mechanical processes are taking place thousands of times per second. pH Balancing is all about the body’s energy.

These reactions take energy, and this energy is primarily electrical. The vitality of your physical body is therefore dependent on a steady flow of electrons to operate your muscles, circulation, nerves, and every other tissue. A loss of energy and vitality is the first sign you are losing health. Another early sign is that your brain gets foggy and you can’t think clearly. It’s only after you continue to lose energy that you start to feel sick. When you lose even more energy, you experience chronic pain in the body.

So, if you’re sick, experience any type of chronic pain such as headaches or backaches, or are simply tired and not thinking as clearly as you’d like, you need to increase the energy stores in your body. In fact, if you’re experiencing any chronic or degenerative disease, you need to boost your body’s energy reserves, as nothing in the body can heal if energy stores are too low.

What Is pH

pH stands for “potential of hydrogen.” pH is a value given to indicate the acidity or alkalinity of a substance. pH values run from 0 to 14. Zero being acid and 14 being alkaline. A pH of 7.0 is neutral. The majority of substances rarely test neutral; they usually have some degree of acidity or alkalinity. A special test paper has been created to check the pH level of substances.

pH is all about energy. It measures the hydrogen ions in a solution to determine if the solution is acid or alkaline. pH is very important because it affects the chemical reactions that occur throughout our whole body. The pH in our bodies is carefully regulated in our cells and in our blood. According to Dr. Morter, our blood pH needs to maintain a pH of 7.35 to 7.45. No matter what we give our body, our body will do whatever it takes to maintain its pH in the blood to maximize how the body functions.

In other words, our body will steal minerals from our bones to maintain the proper pH level in the blood. Over time, one can see how if our body keeps taking things from other places, problems can occur. It’s a fact that if our blood pH goes outside of its parameters, the toll it takes on our body can be fatal. It is very similar to how the pH of the soil affects the growth of plants.

Urine, Blood, and Saliva — pH Balancing

Monitoring our bodies’ blood, urine, and saliva can help us determine the level of health we are at and what our mineral reserves are. Blood is our most important fluid, yet we can’t easily access it. The pH of our blood is between 7.35 and 7.45. More readily available fluids are urine and saliva.

Our urine pH helps us determine if our body has a healthy reserve of minerals. Our saliva pH helps us determine if our body is under emotional stress and if our digestive enzymes are responding. You cannot just randomly check your urine and saliva pH. To get a good gauge of stored minerals or stress, I would recommend the book “pH Your Potential for Health.” It is a short book that explains how to test your pH levels and how to interpret your results.

Interpreting pH Balancing

Dr. Carey Reams also looked at pH as a measurement of how our body uses the energy it gets from the foods we eat. His famous saying from his students is that “Energy In Equals Energy Out.” Dr. Reams looked at pH as a measurement of the body’s overall energy and its speed of digestion.

If the pH of our urine is alkaline and our saliva is acid, it indicates that the body needs more rest because it is using way too much energy to adapt to our current lifestyle and diet. Dr. Reams said that when our pH is too acidic, things tend to move quickly with our digestion, and the opposite is true when we are overly alkaline. When there is over acidity, there is not enough electrical energy for healing. When things move through us too fast, we can’t absorb the needed nutrients through digestion to pass on to our cells, and inflammation, symptoms, and disease begin to appear.

Our Bodies — The Intelligence Within

Dr. Morter explains in his book “Your Health, Your Choice” that the body is designed to function and will do what is necessary to keep us alive. He explains that everything our body does is the correct response for the conditions imposed on it. Every action has a reaction, and our bodies will adapt their reaction as needed to survive.

He also fully explains the body’s backup system, digestive system, and how our body works to maintain the proper pH level. Dr. Morter isn’t alone in his thoughts that being too acidic leads to chronic health problems and that the symptoms the body has are warning signs we are becoming out of balance. Dr. Bernie Siegel has also written books on love, medicine, and miracles, examining our need to be empowered and excited to change, no matter how grave our situation is, to improve.

Dr. Morter stated repeatedly throughout his book that toxic negative thoughts are the greatest acid producers and have the most acidifying effect on our bodies.

Acidosis vs Alkalinity

Remember, we need to maintain our bodily balance. Being overly acidic or alkaline can pose a risk to our health. Eat those veggies! Below is a simplified downloadable booklet on pH Balancing. It briefly explains pH and reviews urine and saliva testing. It also recommends supplements and foods that are acidic and alkaline to assist you.

What You Can Do — pH Balancing

The obvious is to eat more fruits and vegetables, especially green vegetables. They are full of minerals, vitamins, and enzymes and offer very alkalizing effects on the body. You can also exercise on a regular basis, provided you are healthy enough to exercise. Exercise not only keeps our muscles in shape, but more importantly, it helps us manage our stress and improves our mood.

If you struggle to eat your veggies, consider Absolute Greens as a daily addition to your vegetable intake. Magnesium Complex and Nature’s Sea Calcium are also helpful for maintaining mineral reserves and supporting pH balance.
