Treatments for Lower Back Pain at Home
Relieve Muscle Strain, Stress and Overall Muscle Soreness
We all can use some type of help when it comes to managing lower back pain and overall muscle soreness, aches and tension. It would be even better if there were things we can to do as a treatments for lower back pain in our own home. There are, so please keep reading! Many of us dealing with muscle soreness and lower back strain don't really know why. There are many reasons that could be causing your discomfort. The most common causes for muscle soreness and tension are stress, overuse and injuries. The most common causes of lower back pain include sciatica, slipped or herniated discs, overuse, muscle spasms and strains, and sprains. There are of course diseases that attribute as well including arthritis and stenosis. Unfortunately for many of us, we never really know for sure what the source of our pain is.
According to the CDC 50% of adults are dealing with some type of musculoskeletal pain. This includes arthritic pain, sciatica pain, lower back pain, shoulder pain and neck pain. Overuse or repetitive use affects 33% of those dealing with musculoskeletal pain. Lower back pain is the most common overuse symptom there is. Lower back pain affects so many people that they say 80% of us will experience some type of lower back discomfort during our lifetime. It is also widely known that 80% of chronic diseases are linked to the spine making spinal health an area of concern.
Stress a Common Cause of Lower Back Pain
We all all can use a little relaxation because stress is always on the menu. Today's hectic lifestyle keeps our daily stress levels turned up. Statistics show that most of us are unfortunately under moderate levels of stress most of the time! Just think about that 30 minute or more commute to work in the morning. If you couple your stress levels with the current Standard American Diet full of sugar and processed food it's no wonder that so many of us are not feeling well. Stress can raise our blood pressure, create musculoskeletal pain and can even lead to chronic health issues because it creates inflammation in your body. Stress can also be a major culprit in creating muscle tension, lower back aches, muscle soreness, and muscle pain. It sounds like we all need to relax and let our bodies and minds take a break! Have you ever asked yourself why we keep going and going until we can't go anymore?
Do you Show Symptoms of Stress
It's no secret that stress can wreak havoc on the body, especially when we are dealing with it on a daily basis. Stress affects our body, our mind, our energy level and can impact how we feel overall. Many of us think that when we experience pain or don't feel well something is wrong and we are sick. However, stress may be the culprit! Stress influences us physically, affects our mood and our behavior. Below is a list of some examples on how stress influences us.
- Physical Symptoms Headaches, Muscle Tension, Muscular Aches and Pain, Muscle Soreness, Fatigue, Sleep Problems, and Digestive Problems.
- Mood Anxious, Restless, Overwhelmed, Angry or Irritable, Sad, and even Lack Motivation.
- Behavior Overeating or Not Eating Enough, Over use of Tobacco or Alcohol, Becoming Withdrawn Socially.
Stress also impacts our immune system. When we are stressed we activate the part of our nervous system that prepares us for fight or flight. Our fight or flight system increases our heart rate and blood pressure, tells our digestive system to quiet down, and activates our stress hormones which impacts our immune system. When we are stressed our immune system has a more difficult time fighting off invaders which makes it much easier for us to get sick. One of the biggest things you can do as a treatment for lower back pain is manage your stress.
Treatments for Lower Back Pain - Home Remedies
Below are some of my favorite things to do at home and can be used as treatment for lower back pain that can help you.
- Manage your Stress. Deep breathing, watching a funny movie, reading a good book, and listening to your favorite music helps.
- Start Eating Healthier. It is no secret that our diet and the toxins we expose ourselves to can be culprits for pain. Start limiting your caffeine intake and eliminate processed and sugary foods. Start eating more lean meats, whole grains and whole foods, and lots of vegetables and greens. Eating more greens will also help balance your pH which is important because when you are stressed you tend to produce more acid creating a disruption in homeostasis.
- Stay Hydrated. Focus on drinking water and herbal teas. Avoid sugary drinks and lots of caffeine because they can increase inflammation and pain.
- Take a walk. Walking outside in nature is one of the best exercises you can do. Walking helps you to relax overall as well as gently work your muscles.
- Take some Supplements to support structural health. NSP makes a great Structural System Package for overall support.
- Pain Creams can be beneficial for loosening tight muscles as well. My favorite is Tei Fu Massage Lotion. It provides a warming yet penetrating pain relief for sore muscles and joints, especially for aches and pains associated with backaches, strains, sprains and bruises. It also supports your body's physical recovery. I love it!
- Use the SOQI Products daily. My favorite for this type of situation is the Chi Machine, ERE, SOQI Far Infrared Belt and/or FIR Pad.
Using the SOQI Wellness Products
Natural Treatments for Lower Back Pain
The SOQI Products help so many of our customers including myself and my husband manage or erase their lower back pain or issues. I dealt for years with a really tight piriformis muscle that was pressing on my sciatica. The pain was somewhat extreme and I was able to relieve the muscle tension and the sciatica pain using the Chi Machine daily. My husband Sam was also able to relieve his post ruptured disc surgery pain as well as a recent herniated disc with daily use of the Chi Machine and ERE. It is important to note that recent research suggests that many non surgical options are just as effective as surgery for relieving lower back pain. Some other non surgical options for dealing with muscle soreness and lower back aches or pain include chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, and stretching.
The Chi Machine is a therapeutic massager and three of its biggest benefits are that it promotes relaxation, spinal balancing, and temporarily relieves muscular aches and tension. It also promotes circulation because it provides a full body movement similar to walking except you are lying down. Its rhythmic figure 8 motion can also help the body take in more oxygen because as you become relaxed; tension is released allowing your lungs to take in more oxygen transferring the oxygen throughout the body. The Chi Machine has been used by many people dealing with poor circulation, muscle soreness and lower back aches and pain. It also helps to relax the spine with its movement allowing the spine to fall back into place and return to its natural alignment. Spinal misalignments relate to our health and often create pain and symptoms throughout the body including our lower back. The Chi Machine is great to use daily for 5 to 10 minutes and can help you as one option to use as treatments for lower back pain helping with daily aches and pains as well as stress.
Advanced Electro Reflex Energizer
The Advanced Electro Reflex Energizer provides a full body massage utilizing the principles of reflexology and electrical stimulation. The ERE is much more than just a foot massager. It uses low frequency electrical stimulation to stimulate the acupressure points in our feet and hands helping to clear up blockages throughout the muscles and organs in the body. Relieving this congestion or energy blockages will help break up tight muscle groups and relieve pain. The ERE also comes with Electro Pads that are very similar to a TENS Unit and can be used on large muscle groups throughout the body to help relieve joint pain, back pain, neck pain, and shoulder pain. TENS Units have been used as a treatment for lower back pain to help in releiving pain. The Advanced ERE has been used and found to be beneficial by many individuals dealing with neuropathy, plantar fascitis, low back aches and pain, and overall muscle soreness.
Far Infrared Heating Pad or Belt
SOQI Far Infrared Heating Pad and Far Infrared Belt offers the benefit of far infrared therapy. Both of these options are easy to use. Far infrared offers a gentle warmth that really loosens up tight muscles helping them to relax which is very beneficial for pain relief. Heat therapy or far infrared thermal therapy is well known for promoting circulation and helping injuries heal faster and is widely used in sports medicine.
The SOQI Products along with deep breathing, a healthy diet, and clean water will help you manage your muscle soreness, low back pain and your stress. With less achiness and stress you should have a more balanced mood, get sick less often, and physically feel better. Won't it feel great when you have less muscular aches and pains to deal with?
