Winter Health Tips

Winterize your Body and Stay Healthy

During the winter months, people will take steps to winterize their homes and vehicles. They shut off outside water to keep pipes from freezing and may put snow tires on their car in they live in areas with heavy snowfall. They may also winterize their wardrobe, putting on heavier clothes when they venture outdoors.

Most of us don’t think  bout winterizing our bodies, primarily because indoor heating and cooling tend to reduce the impact of seasonal weather, but perhaps we should! In different seasons of the year, people are more prone to specific health problems, for instance, allergies in the spring, heat stroke in the summer, and colds and flu in the winter.

Tips to Optimize your Body During Winter

Try to focus on the season, as nature does when it comes to what to eat and what foods should make up your diet. If you are climate controlled, it may not be as big an issue, however the cold requires more calorie dense foods to generate heat.

What supplements should you take. Maybe you want to consider Vitamin A and D or some K2 as well as Vitamin C.

Focus on your lungs especially if you are breathing in cold dry air. Maybe you want to add a humidifier to your home with some essential oils. There are herbs that focus on supporting lung health like astragalus for cold and dry air.

Think about fortifying your immune system with some immune blends containing mushrooms.

Focus on keeping your skin and make sure to drink water and eat healthy fats to keep your skin moist. You may also want to add some spicy herbs to get your body sweating.

We have to also mention cardiovascular health because the cold constricts your arteries which reduces blood flow to your extremities to keep your body warm. If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart problems be careful when outdoors.

Remember, your health is your wealth and with every changing season brings different concerns. These are tips for staying healthy during the winter.
